Jake and Abby’s Wedding

September 1, 2016

Not many weddings have the effect that Jake and Abby’s did in post-production: at each wedding that I photograph, I disengage a certain part of myself so that I’m not crying through the ceremony if it’s one that moves me. For this wedding, I barely made it through unscathed. I had no way of anticipating how many tears would come later, however. Tears of complete joy. Joy at witnessing how this couple honored the Lord and welcomed him to the ceremony. Joy at the sight of Jake turning around to his bride for the first time. Joy at the coming together of loved ones (near and far) to say “I do” in tune with them both; to stand with them and for them, to listen, to pray, to love, to encourage, and to be present for them when they will experience hurdles in their marriage. This wedding acknowledged what it looks like to put another person first, even if it means work. The group that surrounded Jake and Abby was one that spoke with care and celebrated with delight (…and Homegrown sandwiches, holla’ at that turkey-bacon-avocado). The friendships between the guests and the couple were faithfully strewn together by months and years of conversations, trust, and pursuit. Here’s hoping that these photos represent the day well. Thank you, Jake and Abby, for the absolute honor that it was to photograph your day. The big moments, the little ones too, all sang together to display an unforgettable day.
